Andy Knight Motorsports September 14, 2007 Mike Knight Looks At Possible Championship Ripley, NY – Young gun talent Mike Knight, 20, of Ripley, NY, who burst upon the dirt Late Model scene two years ago, appears to be headed for his career first Super Late Model point championship at Bobby Rohrer’s Eriez Speedway in Pennsylvania. Knight drives the Andy Knight Motorsports owned Arrowhead Wine Cellars, Mobilia Fruit Farm, Ottaway’s Auto Body, Knight Farms, RJB Construction, Chess’ Pizza sponsored Rocket Chassis/Craiger Racing Engines/Genesis Shocks #9k. “I have three more weeks to go and right now we have a 270 point lead,” stated Knight. “Everyone is worried about the points but I’m just going to go into the races the next few weeks and just race and try to win. I’m not worried about the points, I just want to go out and win and the points will take care of themselves.” Knight leads a stout field in the point chase including Andy Boozel, Rich Gardner, Chris Hackett, Andy Kania, Merle Terry, Paul Briggs, Doug Eck, Ward Schell and Ryan Scott. The final point night at Eriez will be Sunday September 23. Two weeks ago Knight won his first career Super Late Model feature at Eriez Speedway after winning his first ever Super Late Model feature earlier in the year at Stateline Speedway in New York. With last week’s racing at Eriez cancelled due to rain Knight reflected on his victory the week before at Eriez where he won from the 11th starting slot. “We just put together a good night and we knew we had a good race car,” commented Knight. “The track was really, really heavy, a hammer down track and whoever drove their car the hardest was going to win. We had a good set up and it sure feels good to get a win there. We’ve been racing there all year long and we knew we would get one, we just didn’t know when.” “For one I never start up front anywhere. I have the worst pill draw luck. I went up top, no one was up there and it was a really tough track to run on that night but we did it.” The night before his Eriez win Knight also had an outstanding run in World of Outlaws Late Model Series action at Tri-City Speedway near Franklin, PA where he started 17th and finished ninth. “Racing is all about what if and I think if we started closer to the front I think we could have finished top five. I started 17th and slipped back to 19th, I got washed up on one of the corners but we were able to get back up to ninth,” commented Knight. “We had a really good car and I was able to make it stick on the bottom really well. I thought I could get through the center of the track.” “That was the first time I had ever been there and when we pulled in on Saturday it was the first time ever there. We were clueless. We parked with Robbie (Blair) and Chub (Frank) and all those guys and they helped us figure things out. We made the usual changes. My brother Andy was really happy with that run.” “We were extremely happy with that track. I told Andy right after hot laps that I liked that track, a really racy track. I’d go back there in a heartbeat. If they ran Late Models there every week I’d go back. It’s really fun.” This weekend after being rained out for the second consecutive week at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, OH Knight and the team will head to Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY. Knight and the team will soon debut an all new website designed and maintained by Bill Blair. Additionally, Knight and the team will be working with Slavic Custom Shirts & Decals during the off-season to produce new wearing apparel and merchandise for the 2008-racing season.
