The fast-rising 21-year-old star from Ripley, N.Y., is scheduled to be honored in front of the four-tenths-mile oval’s massive grandstand at some point during a four-day racing spectacular that includes the Armour Vienna Sausage Showdown on Wednesday night (Oct. 29) and the World of Outlaws VAULT World Finals from Oct. 30-Nov. 1. “I’m real excited to race at Charlotte for the first time,” said Knight, who collected $10,000 for receiving the most votes among the 15 drivers eligible for the Alltel Ohio Speedweek All-Star on-line poll. “We’re going to race at a beautiful track against some of the best drivers in the country – and we’re going to have a chance to stand in front of the grandstand and thank Alltel for putting on a great contest and all the fans who voted for me.” Knight will go to the post in The Dirt Track’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series action behind the wheel of a Rocket No. 9K that carries a new, blacker color scheme. It’s close to the look that he plans to use on his machines in 2009. Knight, who earned his berth in the Alltel Ohio Speedweek All-Star contest by finishing fifth in the WoO LMS event on July 27 at Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa., has four nights of competition at The Dirt Track on his plate. The postponed Showdown event, which will be run ‘topless,’ kicks off the week on Wednesday evening, followed by VAULT World Finals time trials on Thursday night and complete WoO LMS programs of heats, B-Mains and 50-lap A-Mains on Friday and Saturday nights. The Saturday-night program, which also includes the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, will be broadcast live on the SPEED cable network starting at 8 p.m. ET. Friday night’s show will be taped for telecast by SPEED on Sat., Nov. 8, at 9 p.m. ET. The racer known as ‘Hollywood’ has actually been down south since last Friday. He traveled to Atlanta Motor Speedway with some friends to attend the weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event and then headed over to East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala., on Monday to help Southern racer William Thomas, whose family promotes the track. Knight will spend Tuesday attending “shock school” at Genesis Racing Shocks in Roswell, Ga., before hauling up to Charlotte. An up-and-coming dirt Late Model driver whose breakout 2007 season was highlighted by a point’s title at Eriez Speedway, Knight is completing an ambitious 2008 season with his family-owned team. His operation carries sponsorship from Arrowhead Wine Cellars, Mobilia Fruit Farm, Ottaway’s Auto Parts, Ottaway’s Auto Body, Knight Farms, NYPenn Surveying, TeCulver Contracting, Ripley Machine & Tool, Genesis Shocks, Slavic Custom Racing Shirts, Farr MotorSports, MWB Web Designs and American Racing Tires.
