Knight 2nd at Lynn Seamens Super Late Model
Memorial (Stateline Speedway)
August 22, 2009
Busti, NY
Rain clouds narrowly missed the Speedway for the third attempt to run the American Racer Roberts Trucking Lynn Seamens Super Late Model Memorial. Thirty-eight Super Late Models were on hand to try for one of the 24 starting spots and the $10,000 first place prize. Dave Hess Jr. won the Super Late Consolation race from his pole starting spot. The forty lap event was marred by a line nine incident which removed four cars from the field. Rob Blair started on the pole and led every lap to win the biggest first place prize in Stateline Speedways history.
Rob Blair and Mike Knight were on the front row for Lynn Seamens Memorial with Doug Ricotta and Ron Davies in row two. Blair won the dash to turn one with Knight and Ricotta fighting for second. John Lobb was fourth with Scott Johnson fifth. Ron Davies was sixth and Bruce Hordusky seventh. Davies was right up against the fence taking fifth from Johnson. A major incident with nine laps complete brought out the first caution of the event. Matt Urban, Wally Fox, Jason Dupont and Andy Boozel were involved in the back stretch incident. All four were unable to continue. Chris Hackett, Dave Hess Jr. and Boom Briggs all went into the pits during the caution and had to start at the rear of the field.
Blair, Knight, Ricotta, Lobb and Davies were the leaders for the lap ten restart. Blair remained the race leader when the green returned. Davies fell back to sixth with Johnson taking his fifth spot. Briggs did a half spin between turns three and four for the second caution of the event collecting Rod Maloy with fourteen laps in the book. Scott Gurdak went into the pits during the caution to returned to the rear of the field. The green was followed by the yellow as Pete Alspaugh was stopped facing the wrong direction in turn two. Doug Eck slapped the wall two laps later and Briggs spun to avoid him for caution four. Hordusky was caution five with eighteen laps complete. Davies was up contesting third with Ricotta after the restart as Blair walked away from the field. With ten laps to go Blair had and straight away lead on Knight with Davies third followed by Ricotta, Johnson, Lobb, Chad Valone and Gurdak. Lap traffic became a factor on lap thirty one. Knight was unable to close with Blair as they both worked heavy lap traffic. Johnson passed Davies for third with two. Blair finished as he started in the number one spot.
